Pолянка — this is a high-yielding hybrid of cherry and sour cherry, belonging to the duke type, developed by the Donetsk Experimental Station of Horticulture breeders L.V. Tarankenko and A.V. Sychev. This variety was obtained by crossing the varieties "Griot Ostgейm" and "Valeriy Chkalov". The trees are medium-sized with a beautiful broad-oval crown and thick, strong gray-brown branches. The flowers are large, arranged in clusters on short pedicels, which is characteristic of sour cherry. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and disease resistance, as well as annual and high yield.
The fruits of the Pолянка variety are large, weighing about 9-10 grams, dark red in color and flat-round in shape. The flesh is sweet, without acidity, with a distinct aroma combining cherry and sour cherry notes. The stone is small and easily separates from the flesh. The juice of the fruits has a rich red or dark red color. Due to its taste qualities, rated 4.7 out of 5, the cherry is suitable for both fresh consumption and various forms of preservation.
The ripening period falls on the last decade of June, and the first fruits may appear as early as the 2nd-3rd year after planting, with full fruiting from the 4th year. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to choose sunny, wind-protected areas with fertile, loose soil that retains moisture well but without close groundwater. The cherry and sour cherry, which are part of the hybrid, require regular formative pruning in early spring before bud break, as well as tree care in the form of whitewashing trunks and phosphorus fertilizer applications to prepare for winter. Pолянка is suitable for both private gardens and commercial plantings.
