Carrot Bayon RZ F1

Working with Bayon RZ F1

For growers focusing on early harvests, Bayon RZ F1 by Rijk Zwaan is a strategic choice for capturing high-margin markets. With a maturity window of 60–70 days, this variety ensures quick turnaround. Experience shows that consistent performance depends on maintaining a density of 1.0–1.2 million seeds/ha. Over-seeding negatively impacts individual root size, so sticking to the recommended density is key to uniformity.

Production efficiency and harvest

As a Nantes-type carrot, this hybrid is designed for intensive cultivation. Its key technical advantages include:

• Harvestability: The uniform, cylindrical shape is ideal for mechanized harvesting, significantly reducing breakage rates.
• Post-harvest processing: Roots are excellent for washing lines; they have high resistance to damage and maintain their bright orange color.
• Versatility: Bayon RZ F1 performs well in multiple segments: fresh market bunches, washed retail packs, and industrial processing.

A major operational advantage is the hybrid's response to early planting under film. It thrives in early spring conditions, allowing farmers to push for an earlier harvest without sacrificing quality. The roots do not crack easily, which is crucial during spring temperature fluctuations.

Quality management for commercial success

Although Bayon RZ F1 is bred for earliness, it holds high dry matter content, making it a reliable option for processing plants. When planning sales, it is vital to respect the harvest timing to keep the roots crisp and avoid woody texture. Rijk Zwaan has hit the mark with this variety by balancing growth speed with the structural integrity required for modern retail distribution.
