Tropicana

Tropicana cabbage is an early or mid-season hybrid of white cabbage, developed by American breeders of Monsanto Technology LLC. The heads are round-oval in shape, characterized by high density and weight ranging from 1.5 to 3.8 kg. Leaves are of medium size, colored purple or red-purple, giving the variety an attractive appearance. The taste qualities are high, making the cabbage suitable for fresh consumption, processing, and short-term storage.

The Tropicana variety exhibits good resistance to fusarium and is not prone to cracking, ensuring crop preservation and high market appeal. The sugar content in the cabbage is 4.4%, dry matter — 11.2%, and vitamin C — 24.7%, making it a nutritious and beneficial product. The yield of this variety reaches 366.5 centners per hectare, indicating high productivity under proper care.

For growing Tropicana cabbage, sowing should be done in April using seed depth of 0.5–1 cm. During cultivation, mineral fertilizers should be applied, regular watering and ventilation should be maintained, and care should be taken to prevent seedlings from becoming leggy. Seedlings should be hardened off before transplanting, and transplanting to the permanent site should be done 30–45 days after germination. Soils should be well-drained and aerated, and planting areas should be sufficiently sunny for optimal plant growth and development.
