Description

Selma F1 cabbage is a mid-season hybrid of white cabbage developed by breeders from Rijk Zwaan, a company based in the Netherlands. This hybrid is distinguished by its high yield and adaptability to various growing conditions, including open ground and film tunnels. The plant can be grown both via seedlings and direct sowing, making it versatile for different agronomic approaches. The maturity period ranges from 105 to 120 days after seedling planting, allowing for a harvest in mid-late terms. The cabbage tolerates dry periods well thanks to a strong root system and high resistance to climate stress. The hybrid forms dense, compact, and uniform round heads of a light green shade, weighing from 2 to 5 kg; under optimal planting density, heads can reach over 5 kg. Cabbage leaves are dense, powerful, and covered with a waxy bloom, which promotes good preservation and protection from damage. Selma cabbage is noted for its high resistance to cracking and pests such as thrips, as well as to dominant fungal diseases, ensuring high field health and yield stability. Special attention is paid to preservation and transport: the cabbage maintains a presentable appearance and marketable qualities for 4-5 months of storage. To increase yield, growing under a film or agrofabric cover is recommended, along with observing optimal planting density — 30,000 to 40,000 plants per hectare. Due to its qualities, Selma cabbage is suitable for both fresh consumption and pickling, making it in demand among both farmers and consumers.
