ALTAISKY 22

Barley variety ALTAISKY 22 is an early ripening spring barley with a growing season of 62 to 81 days. This low-growing variety is resistant to lodging and drought, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in the regions of Western Siberia, including Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Tomsk oblasts and Altai Krai. The bush is semi-upright, with a medium dense pyramidal ear with long serrated awns and strong anthocyanin coloration at the tips. The weight of 1000 grains varies from 38 to 51 grams, the grain is large, with an unhaired ventral furrow and embracing lodicules. The variety is moderately resistant to loose smut and Swedish turnip fly damage, but susceptible to covered smut and helminthosporiosis.

According to the Altai branch of FGBU «Center for Grain Quality Assessment», 273.6 thousand tons of barley were harvested in the region with an average yield of 22.7 c/ha, which is higher than last year's indicators for yield. Analysis of 39% of the harvest showed that 25.5% of the grain belongs to the first class, 20% to the second and 54.5% to the third. High-quality barley is grown in a number of districts of Altai Krai, such as Bystroistoksky, Yegoryevsky and Rubtsovsky. In some regions, for example Aleysky and Krasnoschekovsky, they produce first class brewing barley with low protein content (no more than 11.5%), which is especially valuable for the production of high-quality beer malt.

ALTAISKY 22 is widely used in food and industrial sectors, including the production of cereals such as pearl and pot barley, as well as for animal feeding. Due to its high content of full protein and starch, this barley is one of the valuable sources of quality feed. In Russia, about 70% of produced barley goes to livestock needs, which emphasizes the importance of the variety for the region's agro-industrial complex.
