Farmer

The 'Farmer' apple variety is a medium-sized tree with a sparse, rounded crown, developed at the Sverdlovsk Research Station of Horticulture by crossing the 'Melba' and 'Vyudubetskaya Plakuchaya' varieties. This variety is late-ripening and precocious, beginning to bear fruit in the fifth year after planting and annually delighting with a stable yield reaching 212 centners per hectare. The tree is winter-hardy but has average resistance to diseases, particularly susceptible to fruit rot.

The 'Farmer' apple fruits are large, weighing about 140–150 grams, having a correct flat-round shape without ribs and a dense yellow-green skin, which at full ripeness is covered with a brownish blush. The apple flesh is coarse-grained, dense, juicy and crisp, with a white or greenish tint and a pleasant, thin apple aroma. The taste is sour-sweet, with a sugar content of about 13.4% and vitamin C in an amount of 28 mg per 100 grams.

The maturation period of the 'Farmer' variety is late-winter, with harvestable ripeness occurring at the end of August. The fruits withstand transportation well and can be stored for up to 180 days, making them suitable for long-term storage and use. Apples are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as pickling, making compotes and jams, which expands their culinary application possibilities.
