The virus is not transmitted through mechanical contact, such as pruning or handling. Instead, it relies on insect vectors, typically phloem-feeding hemipterans, to move from an infected plant to a healthy one.

As a systemic pathogen, the virus replicates within the phloem cells, interfering with the plant's nutrient transport system and leading to severe metabolic disruption.
