The native distribution of this family is largely centered in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, with the highest concentration found in South America, particularly in Brazil. Eriocaulaceae plants naturally thrive in wetlands, bogs, and sandy river banks. These environments are typically characterized by acidic soil and nutrient-poor conditions, which have dictated the specialized survival mechanisms of these plants.
