Biologically, Andrenidae are characterized by their nesting in underground tunnels. They prefer well-drained, loose soils where they construct cells for larval development. The life cycle is typically univoltine, meaning one generation per year, with adults emerging primarily in the spring. Their emergence is highly synchronized with the flowering of specific host plants, which provides the necessary pollen and nectar for offspring provisioning.

The damage caused by these insects is largely physical rather than direct tissue consumption. The construction of numerous nest entrances in agricultural fields or nursery beds can cause soil surface disruption, potentially impeding seed germination and causing root disturbance in young, delicate plants. This disturbance may also expose roots to desiccation or create entry points for soil-borne pathogens.

Crops most affected include high-value nursery stock, berry plantations, and vegetables grown in sandy soils. Because mining bees aggregate in favorable locations, their activity can be highly localized. While they are not classified as primary agricultural pests in the traditional sense, high densities of these bees can necessitate management to preserve the integrity of the seedbed and the health of the plant rhizosphere.

Management of Andrenidae in agricultural settings focuses on habitat alteration rather than eradication. Because these bees are vital pollinators, chemical control is discouraged. Instead, management strategies include mechanical disturbance of the soil surface during the nesting season, the use of organic mulch to discourage tunnel construction, and irrigation practices that maintain soil moisture levels less favorable for the bees' burrowing activities.
