The apricot borer (Sphenoptera foveola) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Buprestidae. Adult beetles are typically 10–12 mm long with a distinct metallic bronze or copper sheen.
Their bodies are elongated and tapered at the rear, with a surface characterized by dense pitting and ridges, providing a rough, textured appearance.
The larvae are legless and yellowish-white, with a notably enlarged thoracic segment, which serves as a key diagnostic feature for field identification.
Eggs are small and oval, usually deposited by females into crevices within the bark or near previous mechanical wounds on the tree trunk.
These beetles are thermophilic, meaning they thrive in high temperatures and are most active on sunny, well-exposed branches and trunks during the day.
What it damages
