Winter barley variety California is an early, two-row feed variety developed by the seed company Limagrain (France). This variety is characterized by high stability and is adapted for cultivation in all climatic zones of Ukraine, including steppe, forest-steppe, and polonyn regions. California exhibits good resistance to diseases such as brown rust, powdery mildew, and barley mosaic virus, as well as lodging resistance, ensuring reliable yields even under adverse conditions. Moderate drought tolerance and high winter hardiness make this variety universal and reliable for farmers. The variety is characterized by vigorous tillering and adaptability to various soil types, which facilitates successful growth in different regions, including Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions. Plant height reaches 85–95 cm, and 1000-seed weight is 53–55 g, indicating good seed energy content. The recommended seeding rate is 3.5–4.5 million seeds per hectare, optimal for achieving maximum yield. The potential yield of California variety reaches 8.5 tons per hectare, with grain protein content at 13–14%, making it valuable for feed use. Seeds are packaged in 40 kg bags, convenient for storage and transportation. Due to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability, California variety is an excellent choice for obtaining stable and high yields of winter barley under various agroclimatic conditions.
