VIKONT barley is an early-maturing spring barley variety belonging to the nudans group. The plant is of medium height with an erect stem and loose, semi-erect cylindrical ears covered with a weak waxy bloom. The awns are longer than the ear, barbed, and lack anthocyanin pigmentation at the tips. The grain is large, with a 1000-seed weight ranging from 42 to 54 grams. The vegetative period ranges from 73 to 127 days, ensuring a rapid development cycle and the possibility of obtaining a harvest in a short time. Protein content in the grain reaches 13%, indicating high product quality. The VIKONT variety is characterized by high resistance to major barley diseases, such as dwarf rust and powdery mildew, as well as moderate resistance to loose smut and speckles. Thanks to these characteristics, as well as high winter hardiness and drought tolerance, this barley ensures a stable and high yield, reaching 70 centners per hectare. The grain quality class is first, confirming its suitability for various applications. VIKONT barley is widely used in agriculture due to its versatility. It adapts well to various climatic conditions, especially to light soils with moderate moisture, and is less demanding on growing conditions. Main application areas include the food industry for the production of cereals, flour, and malt, as well as feed for livestock. For successful cultivation, seed treatment and fertilization are recommended, which contribute to increased yield and plant resistance.
