Description MOSCOW 86
MOSCOW 86 — a mid-season variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with a vegetative period of 73 to 92 days, depending on growing conditions. Plants are of medium height, about 84-86 cm, with an intermediate bush type. The head is pyramidal, loose of medium density, with long awned beaks and large grains weighing 48-51 g per 1000 seeds. The grain is large, uniform, with a high yield — up to 90.1-98.9%, and a protein content of 9.6-12.5%. The variety is characterized by high grain extractiveness up to 82% and a hulling content of 8-9%. MOSCOW 86 has good brewing and forage qualities, making it valuable for beer production and feed. It is resistant to drought and lodging, surpassing many standard varieties in these indicators. The variety is relatively resistant to powdery scab and other diseases, such as solid scab, net blotch, root rots, and rhynchosporium, although it is susceptible to helminthosporium. Thanks to its high adaptability, it is successfully grown in various regions, including the North-West and Central, and shows a high yield — on average 5.39-5.75 t/ha, with maximum indicators up to 7.05 t/ha. A feature of the variety is its ability to grow rapidly at early developmental stages and resistance to soil aluminosilicate acidity, as well as to grain germination on the root. MOSCOW 86 is suitable for cultivation using any intensity technologies and demonstrates high yield even under acute drought conditions, significantly surpassing many foreign and domestic varieties in this indicator. This makes it a reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable and high-quality barley harvest.
