GONAR

GONAR is a mid-season spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety, distinguished by its medium height and multi-row structure. Plants reach a height of about 90 cm and possess lodging resistance, contributing to a stable harvest. Grains are large, oval-shaped, weighing 46-56 g per 1000 grains, with a yellow hue and rounded form. The average yield of the variety ranges from 50 to 69.1 c/ha, with a maximum recorded yield of 81 c/ha in the Volga-Vyatka region. The vegetative period lasts 76-85 days, allowing the variety to mature a few days earlier or simultaneously with other popular varieties.

The GONAR variety demonstrates high resistance to a range of diseases, including leaf diseases, loose smut, and net blotch, while being susceptible to powdery mildew and less affected by brown rust. Drought resistance is rated as moderate. Thanks to its qualities, the variety is particularly suitable for cultivation on soils with a light mechanical composition and responds well to high agronomic inputs, ensuring an additional yield of up to 10.5 c/ha. The seeding rate is 3.5-4.0 million germinating seeds per hectare.

GONAR is a malting barley variety, confirmed by experimental studies of grain and malt quality. Malt from this variety imparts beer a characteristic taste and aroma, distinguishing it from beverages made using other cereals. Despite the fact that state standards regulate only part of the quality indicators of malting barley, the GONAR variety meets the necessary physico-chemical and technological requirements, making it in demand for the brewing industry.
