Description Orolvim
New apple variety resistant to scab, developed by the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding (Antonovka ordinary x SR 0523), with summer-ripening fruit, obtained from a cross in 1977. Breeders: E. N. Sedov, Z. M. Serova, V. V. Zhdanov.
The variety carries the Vm gene. Unfortunately, like other varieties with the Vm gene, its resistance to scab diminishes over time.
The variety was accepted for State Testing in the Middle Belt of Russia in 1989 and included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements for the Central Region in 1999.

Trees are medium-sized, fast-growing, with round, moderately dense crowns. Main branches are curved, sparsely arranged, branching off the trunk at nearly straight angles. Bark on the trunk and main branches is light brown and peeling.

Shoots are slender, curved, brown, round in cross-section, hairy. Buds are small and sparse. Buds are pressed, conical, hairy. Leaves are medium-sized, elongated-oval, long-pointed, with spirally twisted tips, light green with a yellowish tint, wrinkled, matte, with delicate venation. Leaf blade is convex and curved downward. Leaf margin is finely toothed and wavy. Leaf petiole is medium in length and thickness, hairy. Petiole bracts are medium-sized, lanceolate. Fruit buds are hairy and elongated.
Flowers are large, shallow saucer-shaped, in buds — white-pink, petals pale pink, almost white, tightly closed, sometimes with six petals, slightly raised like a boat, stigma slightly above stamens.

Fruits are medium-sized, moderately flattened, conical, slightly skewed. Fruit surface is weakly ribbed. Skin is smooth and shiny. At harvest maturity, fruit color is greenish; at consumption, light yellow. Overlying color is bright red stripes and diffuse blush on most of the fruit. Subcutaneous dots are not noticeable. Fruit stem is short, straight, and oblique. Calyx is acute-conical, medium depth, with slight rusting. Calyx tube is small and grooved. Receptacle is onion-shaped, seed chambers half-open. Subcalyx tube is deep, cylindrical.
Fruit flesh is creamy, dense, juicy, very sweet-sour, with a strong aroma. Visually, fruits are rated 4.3–4.4 points, and by taste — 4.5 points. Chemical composition of the fruit: total sugars — 10.2%, titratable acids — 0.72%, ascorbic acid — 10.2 mg/100g, P-active substances — 186 mg/100g, pectin substances — 13.6%.
Harvesting maturity in the Oryol region occurs in late August; consumer period continues until late September.
The variety is early-bearing and high-yielding (200 centners/ha). Regarding winter hardiness of this new variety, the following fact is noted. During the winter of 1986–1987, when air temperature dropped to -32°C and surface temperature of snow to -35°C, trees of the Orolvim variety suffered no noticeable damage, while trees of the control variety Melba suffered overall frost damage rated at 2.0 points.
Fruits and leaves are resistant to scab.

Advantages of the variety: high resistance to scab, early bearing, high yield, attractive fruit appearance, and excellent taste qualities.
