Late autumn variety from the Sverdlovsk Experimental Garden Station. Developed by L. A. Kотов from crossing Purple Anise with Melboy. Widely grown in new plantings in the Ural regions.
Tree with oval and broad-pyramidal crown, branches angled about 60° from trunk, covered with rings, where fruiting is concentrated from the second year onward, occasionally fruits form on last year's growth.
Medium-thick shoots, round in cross-section, straight, brown, densely hairy. Leaves medium-sized, green, rounded, with rounded base and serrated edges. Short petiole, with small sickle-shaped stipules.
Flowers medium-sized, dish-shaped, white with pinkish tint. Buds rose-colored, stigma column very short, hairy, base of stamens hairy, stigma hairs located slightly below anthers.
Fruits (see illustration) medium or slightly smaller, one-dimensional, round or oval shape, slightly ribbed. Skin smooth, dry, shiny, waxy coating. Main color pale-yellow, covering color blurred bright-red over most of the fruit or entire surface. Fruit stalk short or medium. Calyx medium-sized, conical, almost rust-free. Dish small, narrow, wrinkled; cup closed or half-open, small, subcup tube short, from narrow-conical to cylindrical shape. Heart large, broadly heart-shaped, almost bulbous. Flesh white or cream-colored, medium density, fine-grained, tender, juicy, good to excellent tart-sweet flavor, moderate aroma. Chemical composition of fruits: total sugars — 13.5%, titratable acids — 0.83%, ascorbic acid — 14.4 (up to 22.5) mg/100g, P-active substances — 234.8 (up to 409.9) mg/100g.
Ripening — autumn, consumption: September–December.
Early-bearing variety — fruits from fourth year after grafting, productive, winter-hardy, susceptible to scab in wet years.
Advantages of the variety: fruits of high commercial and consumer quality.
Disadvantages of the variety: susceptibility to scab in wet years.
