Tulip Lustige Witwe

Lustige Witwe: A Reliable Triumph Tulip for Commercial Forcing

Lustige Witwe (the "Merry Widow") is a classic Triumph cultivar renowned for its mid-season bloom and consistent, professional-grade performance. In high-density greenhouse operations, this variety is prized for its predictability, producing uniform, medium-height stems that meet the rigorous standards of modern flower markets.

Operational Efficiency and Pathogen Resistance

The primary reason commercial growers select Lustige Witwe is its robust phytosanitary profile. Unlike many fragile hybrids, it demonstrates significant resilience against a range of soil-borne pathogens, including Fusarium wilt, vascular bacteriosis, and clubroot (kila). This natural resistance serves as a powerful tool for Integrated Pest Management (IPM), allowing growers to reduce chemical intervention and minimize crop loss.

• Optimal Morphology: The medium-height stems are ideal for bouquet production, reducing the need for growth regulators and additional lighting.
• Visual Appeal: The striking red petal color, accented by a distinct white edge, remains vibrant through post-harvest stages, ensuring longer shelf life.
• Predictable Scaling: The variety’s stability simplifies logistics and packaging, as it consistently produces market-ready blooms in the mid-season window.

From an operational standpoint, Lustige Witwe is a workhorse. It is best suited for growers looking to maximize output per square meter while minimizing the risks associated with fungal outbreaks. Because it handles the greenhouse environment with minimal maintenance, it remains a favorite for seasonal planning where profit margins depend on low cull rates and high-quality stem consistency.
