Tulip Clusiana 'Cynthia'

The Botanical Aristocrat: Tulipa clusiana 'Cynthia'

Tulipa clusiana 'Cynthia' is a refined botanical selection of the species often referred to as the 'Lady Jane' tulip. Unlike modern industrial hybrids, this variety retains the delicate, wild-flower grace that has made the Clusiana group a staple in rock gardens and naturalistic landscapes. On the market, 'Cynthia' occupies a niche for gardeners who prioritize elegant silhouettes and perennial reliability over oversized, flashy blooms.

Visual Profile and Morphology

Belonging to the late-flowering group of Clusiana tulips, 'Cynthia' is instantly recognizable by its unique colorway. The exterior of the petals displays a muted, sophisticated mix of reddish and lilac tones, which contrast beautifully with the creamy or yellow interior. When fully opened under the sun, the bloom takes on a distinctive star-like shape. Its low stature makes it an excellent candidate for the foreground of garden beds or rocky slopes where taller hybrids would appear disproportionate.

Landscape Application and Performance

The reputation of the 'Cynthia' tulip is built on its adaptability. Unlike many high-maintenance bulbs that demand annual lifting, this variety is known for its ability to naturalize well, staying in the same spot for several years and forming charming clusters. Key applications include:

• Rock gardens and alpine displays where natural character is essential.
• Low-growing borders along paths and walkways.
• Container planting for early spring accents on patios or balconies.

For designers and enthusiasts alike, 'Cynthia' offers a dependable, historically inspired choice that bridges the gap between wild-born resilience and cultivated elegance.
