Hawthorne "Early Mature" – low-growing plant, bush height reaches 120–150 cm, but at the same time stems are upright and sturdy, which allows using it in mechanized harvesting. Tubers are round, white smooth skin, compactly located in the soil, and leaves are large, heart-shaped with a serrated edge. The plant is unpretentious: resistant to low temperatures and poor lighting, and also well preserves tubers in winter.
The variety is distinguished by early maturity – 40–50 days earlier than most other hawthorne varieties. Vegetation period from 100 to 120 days, while green mass reaches 256 t/hectare, and tubers – 216 t/hectare (in some years yield can reach 400 t/hectare). Tubers of "Early Mature" maintain high sugar reserve until spring, which improves their taste qualities.
"Early Mature" was bred at the Moscow Agricultural Academy and Tula Research Institute of Agriculture. The plant is highly branched, but at the same time compact, which facilitates planting and managing the crop. Thanks to moderate winter hardiness and weak reaction to reduction of daylight, it can be grown in various climatic conditions, including regions with a short summer period. This makes the variety a popular choice for farmers seeking high yield and convenience of mechanized harvesting.
