Burnet Otrada

Botanical Profile and Breeding Value of 'Otrada'

The Prunella vulgaris (self-heal) variety 'Otrada', developed by SKFNAC, represents a stabilized genetic line intended for professional herbal production. Unlike wild populations, this variety offers a uniform vegetation cycle and optimized concentration of biologically active compounds within the aerial parts of the plant.

Technical Specifications

• Plant Type: Perennial herbaceous plant characterized by a robust root system, ensuring excellent winter hardiness and reliable regeneration across varying temperate climate zones.
• Morphology: The variety exhibits strong, upright stems with high foliage density, which is a critical factor for maximizing the raw plant material yield per hectare.
• Biochemical Profile: The chemical structure of 'Otrada' is fine-tuned to accumulate higher levels of tannins, flavonoids, and organic acids, a quality hallmark confirmed by SKFNAC laboratory standards.

Cultivation and Practical Application

The practical utility of 'Otrada' lies in its adaptability to diverse soil conditions and microclimatic environments. As a perennial, the establishment of the plantation requires careful planning regarding field layout. Key performance drivers during the cultivation cycle include precise soil moisture management during the intensive stem elongation phase. The variety demonstrates innate resistance to typical Lamiaceae-related pathogens, effectively reducing the need for aggressive fungicide application. Harvesting is optimal during the mass flowering phase, ensuring that the concentration of active components in the inflorescences is at its peak for pharmaceutical and herbal processing purposes.
