THICK-SUM

Tomato Thick-Sum is an early-maturing, large-fruited salad variety developed by Russian breeders. From germination to the first harvest, it takes 105–110 days. The plants are strong, indeterminate, reaching heights of 1.7 to 2 meters. The first flower cluster forms above the 6th–8th leaf, and subsequent clusters appear every 1–3 leaves. Up to six fruits mature simultaneously on each cluster, with a flattened-round shape and deep red color at ripeness. Average fruit weight ranges from 300 to 350 grams, though individual specimens may reach up to 1000 grams. The number of chambers in the fruit exceeds six, indicating juicy, dense flesh. Thick-Sum is well-suited for cultivation under plastic coverings in the middle belt and open ground in southern regions. Plants thrive in greenhouses on fertile soils such as chernozem. For successful cultivation, regular plant shaping and fertilization are recommended. Although seeds have high germination rates and plants develop well, yield may decrease if affected by cladosporiopsis; however, fruits retain high sugar content and rich flavor. This variety is versatile: Thick-Sum fruits are suitable for fresh consumption in salads as well as for processing into tomato products. Due to their juicy texture and rich flavor, tomatoes are used to make sauces, ketchup, and tomato paste. Yield reaches up to 12 kg per square meter, making it attractive for both hobby and commercial cultivation.
