Tomato Laska

Practical experience growing the «Laska» tomato

When planning a garden where reliability is key, determinate varieties like «Laska» from «Sedek» become true workhorses. This tomato does not require complex trellising due to its limited height, which significantly simplifies maintenance. Based on cultivation experience, several key aspects of managing this variety stand out.

Timing and Productivity

The 90–100 day maturation period fits comfortably within a short growing season. The plant behaves predictably: the uniform harvest release saves you from the need to constantly monitor the rows. The plum-shaped fruit, weighing 60–80 grams, is the "golden standard" for canning. They are firm and do not crack upon ripening, which is essential for those who want to avoid losing part of the yield due to excess soil moisture.

Maintenance and Care

• Planting and Shaping: Despite its determinate type, minimal pruning (pinching off suckers) is still required to improve airflow within the bush. This reduces the risk of fungal diseases during damp weather.
• Transportation: The firm skin is «Laska's» main advantage. The fruit withstands transport in crates exceptionally well without turning into mush, making this variety convenient for market sales or carrying the harvest home.
• Usage: Thanks to their compact size, the fruits fit perfectly into standard canning jars. They also taste great in fresh salads, offering a classic tomato flavor.

«Laska» is the right choice for those who value predictable results without excessive labor. The seeds from «Sedek» show good germination rates, and the plant itself proves resilient, forgiving minor errors in watering or fertilization. It is a reliable choice for a stable harvest that is easy to store and transport.
