Tomato KOROLEK

Field Performance of the Korolek Tomato

Working with the Korolek variety from Sedek, one quickly realizes it is a workhorse designed for producers prioritizing commercial appeal and logistics. The variety is straightforward to manage, but it rewards those who understand its plasticity. Depending on the environment, you can manage it as a compact bush or as a more vigorous plant, allowing for flexible density adjustments per hectare.

Yield and Harvest Management

For an agronomist, numbers are paramount, and Korolek delivers. Yields ranging from 70 to 100 tons per hectare are realistic when agronomic best practices are followed. The 100–120 day maturity window allows for precise seasonal planning. The variety offers versatility in fruit size, ranging from small 20g units to 80–100g fruits, with plum and round shapes that are highly sought after by retailers.

Logistics and Storage

The standout feature of this variety is its post-harvest endurance. The firm skin ensures excellent transportability, meaning losses during long-distance transit are minimal. Storage life exceeding 30 days allows producers to avoid "panic selling" immediately after harvest, holding stock until market prices peak. From an operations perspective, this variety is user-friendly, holding up well under both mechanical and manual harvesting methods.

Agronomic Recommendations

• Take note of the plant type: the flexibility between indeterminate and determinate forms necessitates careful pruning.
• The variety responds well to intensive feeding, which directly correlates to achieving the higher end of fruit mass specifications.
• Excellent choice for supply chains where shelf-life is the critical performance metric.
