Tomato Horiv

Practical Application of 'Khoriv' Tomato in Commercial Farming

The 'Khoriv' variety, developed by the Kyiv Experimental Station of the UAAS, is a robust tool for growers prioritizing marketability and harvest reliability. Being a determinate variety, it is perfectly suited for both open field cultivation and seasonal tunnel production, offering efficiency in space management.

In commercial operations, 'Khoriv' is valued for its mid-season maturity cycle (100–120 days). This allows producers to capture market share after early-season hybrids are cleared, when demand for high-quality colored tomatoes remains consistently high.

Agrotechnical Advantages and Logistics

• Logistical Durability: The fruits are characterized by a firm texture, ensuring excellent transportability. This is vital for farms supplying large retail chains, as it minimizes post-harvest loss during shipment to distribution centers or retail outlets.
• Market Standardization: With a fruit weight range of 80–150 grams, 'Khoriv' is ideal for standard tray packaging. Its distinct heart shape and vibrant orange color make it a premium-looking product, often sought after by consumers looking for specialty or healthier dietary options.
• Ease of Cultivation: The low-growing, determinate plant habit significantly reduces labor costs. Tasks such as staking, pruning, and canopy management are simplified, which is a major advantage for large-scale operations managing tight schedules.

By opting for 'Khoriv', growers receive a predictable yield. The fruits are resistant to cracking during fluctuations in moisture and maintain their aesthetic appeal throughout the harvest period, making this variety a consistent performer in various Ukrainian climatic zones.
