Agrotechnical Guidelines for 'Giantball' Cultivation

The 'Giantball' F1 hybrid, a 2025 Czech selection, is designed for high-intensity production. Achieving its full potential for fruit size and quality requires strict adherence to specific cultivation protocols, particularly regarding nutrition and moisture management.

Planting and Spacing

For optimal results, seedlings should be started in early February, with transplanting occurring 55–60 days later. To ensure proper airflow and light penetration, which are critical for this large-fruited variety, maintain a density of no more than 2.5–3 plants per square meter. Proper spacing is the first line of defense against foliage diseases.

Nutrient and Irrigation Management

• Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-drained, fertile soils with a pH of 6.0–6.5. Pre-planting incorporation of organic matter is highly recommended.
• Irrigation: Drip irrigation is essential. 'Giantball' is sensitive to moisture fluctuations, which can lead to fruit cracking. Maintain consistent soil moisture levels throughout the fruit-setting and enlargement phases.
• Fertilization: Shift focus to potassium-rich fertilizers once the second cluster begins to bloom. Limit nitrogen applications after fruit set to prevent excessive vegetative growth that competes with fruit development.

Phased Care and Maintenance

Pruning to a single stem is standard practice for this hybrid. Regular desuckering is required to keep the plant focused on fruit production. As the fruit matures, gradually remove lower leaves up to the level of the ripening cluster to improve air circulation and reduce the risk of fungal pathogens. Reliable support systems are mandatory to handle the weight of the heavy fruit clusters.
