Tomato EMERALD FLOWER

Practical potential of the indeterminate variety "Samotsvet Izumrudny"

For professional vegetable growers, "Samotsvet Izumrudny" (Emerald Gem) by Sedek is a specialized tool for sequential production of dessert-type tomatoes. The indeterminate growth habit requires a vertical cultivation method, specifically trellis support and regular pruning. This plant structure allows for efficient use of greenhouse space, ensuring light penetration to every cluster.

Cultivation Scenarios and Agronomics

The primary advantage of this variety is its early maturity: the period from emergence to harvest is just 90–100 days. This makes it an ideal solution for:

• Early-season production in plastic greenhouses;
• Premium fresh market segments where unique-colored produce is in high demand;
• Whole-fruit canning, thanks to the density and plum-like shape of the fruits.

With a fruit weight of 20–40 grams, the variety falls into the cherry or cocktail tomato category. The emerald-green color upon ripening is a marker of high sugar content and specific nutrients. In practice, the plant requires consistent management: training the plant to 1–2 stems is recommended to accelerate cluster filling and simplify harvesting.

Economic Viability

Unlike large-fruited hybrids, "Samotsvet Izumrudny" demonstrates high resistance to cracking, which is critical for logistics. Farms choose this variety to diversify their product offerings: colored tomatoes significantly enhance the appeal of the produce display. The stable genetic material from the originator, the Sedek breeding center led by S. V. Dubinin, ensures predictable yields and uniform ripening within the cluster, which reduces manual labor costs during harvest.
