Tomato Burgundy

Tomato "Burgundia": A Statement in Color and Size

The Russian seed company Greenomica has carved out a niche in the market by focusing on tomatoes that challenge the standard red-only offering. The "Burgundia" variety is a prime example, catering to producers and consumers who value deep, "dark"-pigmented vegetables that are as rich in aesthetic appeal as they are in flavor.

Technical Profile and Performance

"Burgundia" is a determinant tomato, a category favored by those who prefer lower-maintenance, compact plants that yield a concentrated harvest. With a maturity window of up to 90 days, it qualifies as a mid-early variety, perfect for achieving quick turnover in both field and tunnel production.

• Fruit Weight: 200+ grams, ensuring it meets the commercial standards for premium large-fruited produce.
• Fruit Geometry: A classic, uniform flat-round shape that stacks well and displays beautifully in retail packaging.
• Color Palette: A striking, deep brown hue that differentiates it from standard varieties and attracts attention at the marketplace.

Market Positioning

For growers using Greenomica genetics, the primary advantage is consistency. "Burgundia" does not require overly complex agricultural practices; however, its size potential rewards growers who focus on balanced potassium nutrition, which is crucial for achieving that characteristic dark color and depth of flavor. Since the plant is determinant, its energy is focused on fruit set rather than endless vegetative growth, resulting in a predictable and efficient harvest cycle.

"Burgundia" represents the modern approach to breeding: taking reliable, high-yield traits and applying them to a niche, high-value product. Whether you are managing a boutique market garden or supplying specialty produce channels, this variety provides a reliable pathway to high-quality, exotic-looking crops that hold their own against any commercial standard.
