RM 422 is an early-maturing type of sweet corn intended for food use. The plant is characterized by low growth and very early tassel flowering. The ear has a weakly conical shape of medium length with a short stalk, and the number of grain rows is average. The grains are of a sweet type, colored yellow, which gives the ear an attractive appearance. This variety is a parent form and was bred in Russia, adapted for cultivation in various regions of the country.
A feature of RM 422 is its belonging to the line of sweet corn with SH2 grain type, which ensures high sugar content — more than 24%. Cobs have a unique bio-color appearance, consisting of 25% white and 75% yellow grains, which is a modern trend in Europe and increases the market attractiveness of the product. The vegetative period is about 70-72 days, which makes this hybrid medium-maturing and convenient for various climatic conditions.
To protect plants from fungal diseases and increase drought resistance, seeds are treated with modern preparations Maxim XL and Vitavax 200FF, and technologies based on effective microorganisms Radix perfecta are also applied. Studies have shown that there are important correlational links between economically useful traits in lines of sweet corn to which RM 422 belongs, which allows optimizing breeding work and creating new high-yielding hybrids.
