Developed by the V. Ya. Yuryev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS, the Romance sunflower is an intensive-type hybrid focused on delivering high yields with premium quality indicators. The breeding strategy centered on ensuring stability within Ukraine's temperate continental climate, which translates into reliable field performance despite fluctuating soil moisture levels.

Biochemical Potential and Seed Productivity

The key metric for this hybrid is its oil content, ranging between 50-55%. Achieving such levels was made possible by optimizing fatty acid accumulation within the achene. For the agronomist, this translates into higher procurement pricing, as the hybrid exceeds standard industry requirements for oilseed processors.

Phytosanitary Resilience as a Cost-Reduction Tool

Integrated pathogen defense forms the bedrock of Romance's profitability. The genetic architecture provides specific immunity against a broad spectrum of fungal diseases:

• Verticillium wilt: Suppresses mycelial development within the plant's vascular system, preventing premature wilting.
• Sclerotinia (white mold): High resistance of the sunflower head and stem to infection, critical in regions with high humidity during the flowering phase.
• Phomopsis: Protects stem tissues from degradation, maintaining the integrity of the vegetative mass until harvest and preventing lodging.

Employing the Romance hybrid allows producers to minimize the number of fungicide applications, thereby reducing direct input costs per hectare.
