Sunflower Don 60

Early Harvest Stability

The «Donskoy 60» sunflower variety, developed by the Zhdanov VNIIMK research station, stands out as a reliable choice for farmers focusing on ultra-early maturity. With a vegetation period of just 90–100 days, it allows for a harvest before the onset of autumn weather, making it an excellent option for farmers who need to clear fields early for winter crops. Beyond maturity, the variety delivers high-quality seeds with an oil content of 50–55%.

Agronomic Resilience

The key advantage of Donskoy 60 over many conventional early-maturing varieties is its robust resistance profile. Breeding efforts have equipped the plant with a strong natural defense against common regional pathogens:

• Pathogen Resistance: High tolerance to downy mildew, rust, verticillium wilt, phomopsis, and various rots.
• Pest Protection: The variety shows inherent resistance to the sunflower moth, significantly reducing the need for intensive insecticide treatments.

Who Should Choose This Variety?

Reaching a height of 180–190 cm, these plants are uniform, which facilitates efficient mechanical harvesting. Donskoy 60 is an optimal choice for operations practicing extensive farming, where a cost-effective, low-maintenance crop is preferred over high-input, sensitive foreign hybrids. It is a workhorse that consistently performs on Russian black soils with predictable results.

Strengths: High oil content, fast maturity cycle, and strong resistance to the sunflower moth.
Weaknesses: Yield potential may be lower compared to cutting-edge intensive hybrids when managed under high-input conditions.
