Sorghum 'Krasen' is an early-maturing variety developed for cultivation for brooms and brushes. The plant reaches a height of up to 280 cm, is characterized by good branching — on average, 2.1 stems per plant. The panicle is long, from 42 to 48 cm, with a distinctive straw-brown color. The grain is membranous and brown, which is a distinguishing feature of this variety.
The yield of 'Krasen' is quite high: from one hectare, one can obtain 7.0 to 8.0 tons of panicles with stems and 3.7 to 4.3 tons of grain. The yield of standard brooms amounts to 4,000 to 5,000 pieces per hectare. The variety is characterized by resistance to lodging, shattering, drought, and infection by major diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in steppe zones.
'Krasen' has been included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2007 and is widely used specifically for the production of brooms and brushes. Thanks to its characteristics and resistance, this variety ensures a stable and high-quality yield, making it popular among farmers oriented toward specialized use of sorghum.
