Rhododendron SCHOOLGIRL

Structural analysis of the «Shkolnitsa» Rhododendron

The «Shkolnitsa» rhododendron, developed by the Academician A.G. Shipunov KBP (Kbp), represents a focused breeding achievement within the ornamental plant segment. Designed as an evergreen shrub, it addresses the technical requirements of maintaining foliage vitality throughout the year under variable climatic conditions.

Botanical specifications and development

• Growth habit: Reaching a mature height of 120–200 cm, the plant functions effectively as a structural focal point or a dense visual screen in garden landscapes.
• Evergreen canopy: The persistent leaf structure provides year-round coverage, which is a key trait of this specific variety.

Technical cultivation insights

The success of the «Shkolnitsa» variety from Kbp relies on the management of its biological equilibrium. To reach the upper height threshold of 200 cm, growers must prioritize soil acidification (maintaining a pH of 4.5–5.5), which is essential for the nutrient uptake efficiency of the rhododendron’s fibrous root system. From a maintenance perspective, the evergreen nature of the cultivar necessitates strategic watering and protection from early spring transpiration, when the root system remains dormant in frozen soil while leaves are already exposed to solar radiation.
