Rhododendron «White Swan» – an evergreen shrub up to 2 meters high and about 1.5 meters wide, distinguished by its dense, dark green foliage. Leathery leaves have an elliptical shape, measuring from 4 cm to 12 cm in length, glisten in the light, and retain their color throughout the year.
In early summer, usually from May to June, the bush opens white, slightly pinkish inflorescences up to 3.5 cm in diameter. Each bud consists of 7–10 pieces, adorned with pale purple and brownish-white speckles on the upper petal. Blooming lasts several weeks, during which the plant does not emit any scent.
«White Swan» is distinguished by its high resistance to urban air pollution, frost resistance up to -28 °C, and undemanding care requirements. It prefers acidic, loose, well-drained soil with a pH from 5.5 to 7, as well as bright or semi-shaded locations protected from direct sunlight rays during the summer period. Regular mulching and moderate watering maintain soil moisture without over-wetting.
To form a neat crown, it is recommended to cut off last year's shoots by 1/3–1/2 after flowering ends, as well as carry out preventive treatment with a fungicide at the first signs of fungal diseases. Thanks to its decorativeness and ease of care, this rhododendron is excellent for landscape design: it can be used as a living hedge, placed along paths, by water bodies, or combined with coniferous plants and peonies.
