Agronomic Profile of Phacelia "Folis"

Registered in 2023 by Sanagro Ukraine, the "Folis" variety is a breeding solution adapted for all key agro-climatic zones of Ukraine: from the arid Steppe to the humid Polissya. In field conditions, the crop demonstrates a stable habit and predictable development, which is critical for cover cropping.

Field Performance and Resilience

"Folis" is characterized by moderate branching and the absence of stem pubescence, which, combined with the plant's medium height, ensures good lodging resistance even during intensive green mass growth. The plant forms a robust leaf rosette (long, wide, light-green leaves with anthocyanin coloration) that closes quickly in the rows. This creates a natural "living mulch" layer that suppresses weed development and retains soil moisture, which is particularly relevant for southern regions.

The variety shows medium flowering onset times, while the genetically determined high density of inflorescences and the large number of flowers on the main shoot make it an effective honey plant. Under drought conditions, "Folis" maintains turgor due to a well-developed root system characteristic of this population type. The absence of stem pubescence facilitates the incorporation of biomass into the soil, accelerating mineralization.

Practical Application

The primary purpose of this variety is green manure (sideration). Due to its high capacity for organic matter accumulation, "Folis" effectively restores soil structure, improving aeration and water permeability. The medium 1000-seed weight ensures uniform emergence, allowing for an even stand as early as the initial stages of vegetation.
