Cultivation Guidelines for the X2F4 Hybrid

The X2F4 Paulownia hybrid, developed by WeDrow Germany GmbH and registered in 2024, is engineered for resilience in steppe climatic zones. Achieving high biomass yields with this F1 hybrid requires precise management of soil conditions and irrigation schedules from the moment of planting.

Soil Preparation and Planting

X2F4 thrives in well-aerated, light-textured soils with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. Before planting, deep soil loosening (up to 60 cm) is essential to accommodate the vigorous taproot system. For timber production, a planting density of 3x3m or 4x4m is recommended to ensure optimal light interception and nutrient availability for each tree.

Irrigation and Maintenance

In steppe regions (Zone C), consistent moisture is the primary driver of growth.

• Irrigation: Drip irrigation is mandatory during the first two years. Water stress during the peak growth months (May–July) significantly impairs the development of the main stem.
• Technical Cut: A "technical cut" at the end of the first growing season is a standard practice for X2F4 to ensure the development of a perfectly straight, high-quality trunk.
• Nutrient Management: Nitrogen application should be concentrated in the first half of the season to maximize growth, tapering off by August to allow the wood to harden before the winter dormancy period.

Weed control is critical during the first 24 months. As the canopy closes, the need for mechanical weeding decreases, but early-stage competition must be strictly managed to prevent growth suppression.
