Onion Tandem

Why Tandem became the benchmark for long-term storage

When it comes to onions for processing and long-term storage, many farmers choose "Tandem" from the Czech company Moravoseed. This mid-late hybrid, with a vegetation period of 130–140 days, has proven itself as a highly predictable variety that performs stably even under stressful seasonal conditions.

Performance in the field and the warehouse

In practice, Tandem demonstrates excellent uniformity. The round bulbs, weighing 150–160 grams, have a dense structure, which is critical for mechanized harvesting. The bright brown skin provides reliable protection for the white, juicy flesh, reducing the risk of damage during loading and transport.

• Storage life: 9–10 months. This is a key metric. The onion retains its marketability and shows low susceptibility to mass sprouting in storage if the temperature regime is maintained.
• Processing: High dry matter content makes it an ideal raw material for drying and canning.
• Yield efficiency: Due to the uniform shape of the bulbs, waste during cleaning on processing lines is minimal.

Working with this onion is straightforward; it does not require complex agrotechnical experimentation. Adhering to a standard fertilization and irrigation schedule is sufficient. In storage, Tandem acts as a "safe harbor"—there is no need to sort it every couple of months, as it holds up well until the next harvest while maintaining high market value. If your goal is to provide consistent supply to retailers or processing plants throughout late winter or early spring, Tandem from Moravoseed justifies every cent invested in the seed material.
