Description Baltimore F1
Baltimore F1 carrot is an early, high-yielding hybrid of the Berlikum type, developed by the seed company Bejo Zaden from the Netherlands. It is intended for cultivation in northern and central regions of Ukraine and has a vegetation period of approximately 103-105 days. The hybrid is characterized by high seed germination and can be sown both early in spring and in November after the risk of prolonged warming has decreased. Adhering to agronomic practices such as thinning, pest control, maintaining optimal soil moisture, and weed removal, enables yields of 4-6 kg per square meter. The carrots of the Baltimore hybrid have a cylindrical, elongated shape, up to 20 cm long and 3-5 cm in diameter, with root weights ranging from 120 to 250 grams. They possess a bright orange color both externally and internally, with smooth skin and a small core. The flesh is dense, juicy, and sweet, with a high content of dry matter (11-12.4%), sugars (up to 7.7%), and carotene (up to 22.4 mg). The plant forms a strong, healthy dark green leafy rosette approximately 40 cm tall, resistant to breakage, which allows for mechanical harvesting without compromising yield quality. The hybrid demonstrates high resistance to fungal and bacterial diseases such as cercospora, alternaria, powdery mildew, and various spots, and is not susceptible to nematodes. Thanks to its excellent storability and ability to retain flavor for several months, Baltimore carrot is suitable for processing, canning, freezing, and for producing early bunch products. It tolerates transportation well and is recommended as an improved alternative to the popular hybrid Nandrin F1.
