Bee balm BERGAMOT FLAVOR

Botanical Profile and Breeding Context

The 'Vkus Bergamota' (Bergamot Flavor) variety by Aelita Agrofirm is a targeted breeding achievement focused on maximizing the essential oil content of Monarda (Monarda). Breeders V. G. Kachaynik, M. N. Gulkin, and S. V. Matyunina focused on stabilizing the aromatic compound profile, making this herb a viable local alternative to the classic citrus bergamot.

Technological Composition Features

The core value of this crop lies in the biochemical composition of its leaves and inflorescences. Unlike wild forms, 'Vkus Bergamota' exhibits a high concentration of thymol and other terpenes, which create a distinct citrus-spicy profile during brewing. In practice, this allows the plant to be used as a standalone component for tea blends or as part of herbal preparations without requiring synthetic flavorings.

Agrotechnical Advantages

• High regrowth intensity: The variety supports regular harvesting throughout the season without compromising the bush's regenerative capacity.
• Essential oil stability: The aromatic profile remains consistent even after drying under proper thermal conditions.
• Versatility: The variety is adapted to local climatic conditions, minimizing the risk of crop loss during frost or moisture fluctuations.

The application of this variety extends beyond simple culinary use. Due to its phytoncide content, Monarda 'Vkus Bergamota' serves as a biological sanitizer, suppressing the development of pathogenic microflora in the root zone of neighboring crops. When creating tea blends, it is recommended to harvest the upper leaves and unopened inflorescences, where the concentration of essential oils reaches its peak.
