Millet ORLOVSKY DWARF

Technical Profile: Orlovsky Karlik Millet

Developed by the Federal Research Center for Legumes and Grops, the "Orlovsky Karlik" variety represents a specialized solution for intensive farming. Classified as a spring-sown crop, this common millet variety is the result of targeted breeding aimed at reducing stem height while maintaining high panicle productivity.

Biological Architecture and Resilience

The core feature of this variety lies in its morphotype. Its short-stemmed nature fundamentally shifts photosynthate distribution within the plant. Unlike taller counterparts, this variety shows exceptional lodging resistance, which is critical when applying mineral fertilizers at high rates. The practical advantage is clear: reduced strain on the stem minimizes losses during direct combine harvesting.

• Vegetation Period: The variety features a balanced development cycle, adapted to the climatic conditions of the cultivation regions, allowing for efficient use of the summer thermal optimum.
• Processing Efficiency: Uniform ripening of the panicles ensures a low percentage of grain breakage during threshing and a high yield of finished groats during processing.
• Adaptability: Breeding efforts were focused on creating a stable genotype capable of mitigating the stressors typical of the early summer period.

From a production management perspective, "Orlovsky Karlik" serves as a cost-control tool. The compact plant structure simplifies the harvesting process and reduces energy expenditure for moving vegetative mass through the combine's threshing and separation unit. This makes it an optimal choice for operations focused on high-tech groat production while adhering to stringent grain quality standards.
