Flax Orfei

Orpheus Flax: Versatility for Modern Farming

Developed by the Institute of Oilseed Crops of NAAS, the 'Orpheus' variety is designed for Ukrainian farmers who prioritize crop flexibility. This dual-purpose variety bridges the gap between technical fiber production and the food-grade oil market, providing a solid economic foundation for any agricultural enterprise.

Field Performance and Technical Specs

With a plant height of 50–60 cm, Orpheus is optimized for efficient mechanical harvesting, reducing lodging risks under standard sowing densities. The characteristic blue flowers result in brown seeds that consistently deliver 40–44% oil content. This makes the variety a preferred candidate for oil extraction facilities seeking high-quality feedstock.

Strategic Application in Crop Rotation

• Oil Production: High oil content ensures competitive margins for processors and export-oriented producers.
• Fiber Potential: Unlike pure oilseed varieties, Orpheus provides high-quality straw that can be channeled into the textile or composite material industry, serving as an additional revenue stream.
• Yield Stability: Under proper management, the variety demonstrates a yield potential of 1.5–2.5 tons per hectare, proving its reliability across various intensive and semi-intensive farming systems.

Choosing Orpheus is a strategic move for farms looking to mitigate risks through diversification. Its adaptability to local soil and climatic conditions, combined with standardized agronomic requirements, allows for a predictable harvest and reliable financial performance.
