Description MEDITIA
The hybrid sweet corn MEDITIA (Meotida DNA) belongs to early varieties with maturity group FAO 190 and was registered in the State Register of Ukraine in 2018-2019. This trihybrid is characterized by its versatility and high cold resistance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones, including the southern part of Polissia, forest-steppe, and northern steppe. Plants reach a height of 240-250 cm, with ears 22-24 cm long, 14-16 rows of kernels, and 35-40 kernels per row. Kernels are cream-colored and toothed, with a 1000-kernel weight of 280-320 g, ensuring high energy and nutritional value of the crop. The hybrid MEDITIA is characterized by intense grain moisture release and high yield potential up to 12.7 t/ha. Average yield over recent years ranged from 9.5 to 12 t/ha, confirming the variety's stability and reliability. Milling efficiency is high — kernel extraction reaches 78-83%, allowing optimal use of sown areas. Plants exhibit high drought resistance (rating 8 out of 10), lodging resistance (8-9 points), and disease resistance, including blister galls (9 points). Thanks to these traits, the hybrid maintains productivity even under adverse weather conditions and during delays. To achieve maximum results, sowing should be conducted at optimal times when soil temperature is +9...12 °C at seed depth. The hybrid responds well to improved growing conditions and is suitable for conventional soil tillage. High protein content (8.9-9.8%) and starch content (71.5-72.6%) in kernels make it valuable for both food industry and silage production. Recommended pre-harvest plant density varies by region: 60 thousand/ha in steppe, 80 thousand/ha in forest-steppe, and 90 thousand/ha in Polissia.
