Pepino «Ramzes» – one of the largest varieties of melon pear, reaching a fruit mass of up to 1 300 grams and a weight of approximately 1.3 kg. The fruits have an egg-shaped shape, a light-yellow color with characteristic lilac stripes, and the flesh – juicy, sour-sweet, honey-yellow, rich in the aroma of exotic fruits and melons.
The variety is distinguished by high yield, early ripening, and resistance to adverse conditions. The plant is a perennial shrub of the nightshade family, growing as a dense bush with a large number of suckers, comparable in growth strength to eggplant. Successful cultivation requires good ventilation and a night temperature not lower than 18 °C, during the day – from 25 to 28 °C. Suckering is conducted regularly: usually three fruits are formed on one inflorescence, less often – six to seven.
Pepino «Ramzes» can be grown both in open ground (with planting from the end of February to the beginning of May) and in protected ground or a greenhouse. Seedlings are usually obtained by cuttings, planted in the ground at the end of May. The plant requires regular watering and mineral nutrition, as well as good lighting when growing seedlings.
The fruits ripen in August-September, have a long storage period: in the refrigerator up to 1.5 months, sometimes up to 2.5 months. Due to the tough skin and juicy flesh, they are suitable both for fresh consumption and for making compotes, jams, and other dishes. The internal composition is rich in carotene, vitamins B1, PP, iron, as well as vitamin C, comparable with citrus fruits.
Thus, «Ramzes» – this is a reliable, high-yielding variety of melon pear, suitable both for commercial cultivation and for a home garden, offering large, juicy fruits with a unique taste and aroma.
