Balu

Watermelon Balu is an early hybrid of the Crimson Sweet type, developed by the Dutch seed company Kitano Seeds. The ripening period is 65-70 days after transplanting seedlings to the permanent location. The plant is characterized by its strength and resilience, has a well-developed root system that ensures effective feeding of the plant, making the hybrid adaptable to various growing conditions. The leaf canopy is dense and robust, which protects the fruits from sunburn and promotes the formation of 2-3 large fruits per plant. The fruits of watermelon Balu have a round-oval shape with a characteristic striped green rind of medium thickness (up to 10 mm), which is dense and provides excellent transportability and good storability. The average weight of the fruits ranges from 7 to 11 kg. The flesh is bright red, dense, crisp, and very juicy, with a high sugar content — about 11-12%, which gives the watermelon a rich sweet flavor and a delicate texture. The hybrid is resistant to major diseases such as Fusarium wilt (races 0 and 1) and anthracnose (race 1), ensuring stable high productivity and concentrated harvest. Watermelon Balu is intended for fresh market sale, and is also suitable for processing and pickling, due to its marketability and ability to retain quality during transport and storage.
