Watermelon Virginia

Stability and Yield Potential

The Dutch breeding from Wing Seed, represented by the "Virginia" watermelon, is a classic choice for growers focused on the time-tested Crimson Sweet type. Under intensive farming conditions, this hybrid demonstrates high adaptability to environmental stressors, maintaining top fruit quality even during temperature fluctuations.

Why choose Virginia?

• Optimized Form and Weight: Fruits reach 9–12 kg, the "gold standard" for market trade. The round-elongated shape makes them convenient for transport and storage.
• Ripening Schedule: A vegetation period of 80–85 days allows for efficient planning of supply cycles, avoiding market oversupply peaks.
• Flesh Quality: The bright red color and dense texture ensure an attractive appearance when sliced, paired with excellent taste—a critical factor for the end consumer.

Who is this hybrid for?

Virginia is ideal for operations focused on high-quality commercial watermelons. Unlike many modern ultra-early hybrids that often sacrifice density for speed of ripening, this variety maintains a balance between vegetation speed and shelf life.

A point to note is the need for strict adherence to irrigation schedules during fruit filling, as the significant mass requires stable nutrient supply. Virginia performs best with quality fertigation, yielding consistent results season after season for those willing to manage the crop intensity.
