Fontane

Fontane is a medium-late, high-yielding potato variety developed by the Dutch breeding company Agrico. The maturation period is approximately 120 days, allowing for a stable yield under various climatic conditions. Tubers have an elongated-oval shape, yellow smooth skin with small eyes, and light-yellow dense flesh. The dry matter content in the tubers reaches 22-23%, making this variety especially valuable for chip production and other culinary products. The yield of this variety can reach 325 centners per hectare, and on average, 10 to 20 tubers weighing 80-120 grams are harvested per plant.

Fontane is characterized by high storability, enabling tubers to retain their market quality until the start of the new storage season. The variety is resistant to golden and common scab, as well as shows resistance to many viral diseases. To prevent late blight, it is recommended to follow a preventive treatment schedule. Potatoes adapt well to various soil types, expanding their cultivation possibilities across different regions.

This variety is versatile in application: it is excellent for preparing mashed potatoes, French fries, potato dough, as well as for use in soups and stews. The high dry matter content and low level of free reducing sugars ensure excellent quality during thermal processing, making Fontane one of the most popular varieties in Europe for chip and other potato product production.
