The hazelnut variety Borishkivetsky 1 is a high-yielding and high-quality variety developed at the Transnistrian Experimental Station for Horticulture in 1997. The tree is medium to tall, with a wide crown of about 10 meters in diameter and reaches a height of 6–8 meters. The leaves are oval-shaped, tapering at the tip, and the bark is gray. Flowering occurs at the end of the first to the beginning of the second decade of May, with a protandrous flowering type. Fruit production begins 2–6 years after planting, with lateral fruiting, ensuring early fruiting and stable yields.
The fruits of this variety are medium-sized, weighing 10–14 grams, round in shape with a slightly pointed apex and a light brown, thin shell of about 0.8 mm thickness, which is easily crushed. The nut kernel is soft cream-colored, making up 52–65% of the fruit’s mass, easily separates from the shell, and possesses excellent taste qualities. The kernel contains 70–73% fat, about 14–16% protein, and 7–9% sugars, making the nuts nutritious and beneficial.
Fruit ripening occurs in mid to late September. In favorable years, yield per tree reaches 100–140 kg, and at 65 years of age, it averages about 122 kg. The variety is highly resistant to frost and diseases, allowing successful cultivation in various regions of Ukraine. Borishkivetsky 1 is suitable for both personal and commercial cultivation, thanks to its adaptability, early fruiting, and high-quality fruit.
