Evening primrose FIREWITCH

Scientific approach to cultivation: Oenothera 'Svetlyachok'

The Oenothera (evening primrose) variety 'Svetlyachok', developed by breeders at the VILAR Institute, is a prime example of targeted selection for medicinal raw materials. Unlike wild-growing forms, this variety is adapted to the requirements of standardized production, which is critical for maintaining a stable chemical composition.

Morphological and biochemical parameters

The primary value of the plant lies in its seeds, which are a source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). The VILAR selection program focused on increasing oil content and the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The technical characteristics of this variety provide:

• High uniformity in the ripening of seed pods, minimizing losses during mechanized harvesting.
• Optimal stem height compatible with standard combine harvesters equipped with appropriate headers.
• Resistance to lodging, which directly affects the purity and preservation of the yield under adverse weather conditions.

Industrial use of this variety allows farmers to work with predictable raw material yields. VILAR has engineered high germination energy into the genetics of 'Svetlyachok', ensuring ideal plant density without the need for unnecessary reseeding. The protection and nutrient management system for 'Svetlyachok' is virtually identical to that of traditional oilseed crops, though it requires specific attention during the flowering phase to prevent seed shedding.
