Oenothera «FONARIK» – a perennial plant from the Oenothera genus, known as the evening candle because its flowers open at dusk and remain open until dawn. The plant reaches a height of 1–1.2 m, stems are covered with stiff hair, and leaves have an oval shape with serrated edges.
The flowers of Oenothera «FONARIK» are bright and large, with a diameter of 7–8 cm. They can be white, pink, red, yellow, purple, and blue, making them an attractive element of landscape design. The inflorescences are racemose, located at the tops of stems, and flowering lasts from June to September, depending on weather conditions.
Care for the plant is simple: it prefers sunny or shaded areas, but can also grow in partial shade. The soil should be loose, drained, and neutral; mineral fertilizers and manure are added when planting. Watering is done 1–2 times during the summer season – deep, and feeding is carried out in spring and during flowering (potassium sulfate and superphosphate). The plant is resistant to drought and frost; mulching to 5 cm helps with wintering. Pests – aphids and fungal diseases; when they appear, affected parts are removed and insecticides or fungicides are applied.
Oenothera «FONARIK» is easily propagated both by seeds and by dividing bushes. Due to minimal care requirements and beautiful evening flowering, it is suitable for lawns, landscape groups, rockeries, borders, and textured spots in the garden. As companions, it blends well with bellflowers, lobelia, veronica, astilbe, and ageratum.
In addition to its decorative qualities, the plant contains saponins, vitamin E, flavonoids, and microelements; seed oil is used in cosmetology for skin care. However, it is contraindicated for use in case of epilepsy or mental disorders.
