OPTIMIST is a perennial herbaceous plant growing from 50 to 70 cm in height, gradually acquiring a reddish-brown stem shade with two longitudinal stripes. Leaves are sessile, dark green, and about 3 cm long. The plant has a strong rhizome from which several two-edged branched stems grow daily.
In phytotherapy, St. John's wort is widely used as an analgesic, wound-healing, diuretic, cholagogue, and anti-inflammatory agent. It is applied for treating ulcers, as well as in folk medicine – tea steep with high healing power.
