Cucumber RAADE

A Reliable Bee-Pollinated Variety for Open Fields

The «Raade» cucumber, developed by the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK), is a classic variety designed for growers who prioritize traditional taste and field performance. Unlike greenhouse-focused hybrids, Raade is a bee-pollinated variety that thrives in natural conditions.

Key Advantages

• Early Harvest: With a ripening period of just 40–45 days, it is among the first to provide fresh produce in the summer season.
• Ideal for Processing: The large-tubercle fruit, ranging from 10 to 15 cm in length, possesses the structural density necessary for high-quality pickling and brining, maintaining its crunch even after processing.
• Regional Adaptation: Having been developed by a dedicated research institute, the variety shows high resistance to typical climatic fluctuations found in Russia.

Cultivation Nuances

The defining characteristic of Raade is its reliance on natural pollination. While this requires a garden environment accessible to bees, it results in a more authentic, robust flavor profile compared to many parthenocarpic (non-pollinated) varieties bred solely for commercial shelf life. It is an optimal choice for home gardeners and small-scale farmers who prefer organic or traditional cultivation methods. The primary challenge is that yields are weather-dependent during the flowering phase; however, in a well-managed garden, the returns in terms of taste and harvest volume are substantial.

If you are looking for a reliable, productive variety that excels in both fresh salads and traditional preserves, Raade is an excellent addition to your garden.
